Check the pins inside the slot for bending, and inspect the area around the game cartridge slot, headphone jack, and touchscreen connector for signs of liquid damage.
In some cases, if there is no obvious physical damage, the motherboard might need replacement; however, this has become increasingly difficult. There are multiple versions of the motherboard and touchscreen—some of which are prone to touch issues—and Nintendo appears to have restricted component replacement via recent firmware updates.
