The PS5’s HDMI ports are poorly soldered from the factory. After repairing over 100 devices, I can say that not a single one was soldered correctly; the pins would break with the slightest movement.
To resolder a new HDMI port to the console, you must first remove the existing one. Use a hot air station set to maximum (500 degrees Celsius, 120% air). Below 500 degrees Celsius, you will have difficulty removing the connector.
Heat about 1 inch from the bottom of the connector, not the top. Move in a circular motion and set a 6-minute timer. After approximately 6 to 8 minutes, the connector should come off freely.
Important: Do not pull or lift if the connector is not completely loose, as this may tear the small pads on the PCB.
Once detached, you must use flux and a desoldering tool to remove the original solder. Mix with leaded solder to lower the melting point, and heat the pads and holes with a 420°C soldering iron and hot air station to remove the desoldering tool.
If you knock off the small capacitor on the left side of the HDMI port, that’s a 0201 ceramic capacitor, 220nF. It’s not essential for HDMI to function, but it’s recommended to reinstall it if you’ve removed it.
