PS5 Standby Startup Sequence and Power Consumption Analysis

Checking quiescent power consumption using a DCPS helps determine the current health of the console.

The DCPS (desktop power supply) should be set to 12V/2A to supply power to the PS5’s 12V power rail.

Here’s what different quiescent intake levels might indicate, but first and foremost—how to connect correctly.

Set the voltage to 12V
Set the current to 2A
Turn off the power
Secure the clips to the board’s claws
Turn on the power and monitor power consumption for 10–15 seconds.

What a healthy reading looks like:

The current rises to ~0.321A within seconds.

Then drops to ~0.007A.

This indicates the host is likely in good condition.

Phase 1 Phase 2 Potential Causes

+- 321 mA +- 7 – 10 mA Working / Good

+- 0.0 mA +- 0.0 mA Check BIOS and fuses, +12V power supply, check for short circuits at the +12V input.

+- 0.015 mA +- 0.015 mA Check for short circuits near the Soutbridge.

+- 5 mA +- 5 mA Check for short circuits near the HDMI encoder IC.

+- 7 mA +- 27 mA Check for short circuits near the Soutbridge.

+- 7 mA +- 7 mA If the host is stuck at 7mA when entering standby power, check the Dialog voltage and 25MHz clock frequency, and the Southbridge IC’s 32kHz clock. If this is possible, try to see if the Southbridge is accessing the BIOS IC. Flash firmware / Replace

+- 321 mA +- 7 – 10mA (it quickly goes to sleep) Check the SSD handle. Sometimes, an interface update or power outage may occur.
