In most cases, this problem is caused by oxidation of liquid metal or dust buildup on the APU. This dust accumulates over time, obstructing airflow.

Diagnostic Steps
First, remove the cover and check the fan for dust. Ensure the fan spins when the console is powered on.

If the fan is broken, you will need to replace it.

If the fan is working properly, the console must be disassembled to check for liquid metal and dust.

First, remove the fan. If dust has accumulated as shown in the image below, the best cleaning method is to use an air compressor or similar tool.

⚠️Caution: Liquid metal is conductive; avoid spilling it onto the motherboard.

⚠️Caution: Do not remove the black foam barrier around the APU.

The best cleaning method is to use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol, as shown in the photo below.

Move the liquid metal to one side so you can clean off any oxides. This may require multiple swab applications, on both the APU and Hesk sides.

Usually, you won’t need to add more liquid metal unless it’s removed during the process. If a lot of liquid metal has been removed, you can apply a Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut.

The liquid metal should be applied like this.

Remove the heatsink before assembly to ensure it’s free of dust blockage.

After cleaning the dust from the case and reapplying the liquid metal, be sure to test it. The best way is to play a game to see if the case no longer shuts down due to overheating.

Alternatively, if you prefer, you can unplug the fan and then turn on the case. If the liquid metal is applied correctly, the case should not shut down at the main menu. Just avoid opening any games without the fan connected.
