This error occurs when the device cannot detect the WiFi/Bluetooth module.
Error 8002F1F9
You tried to update the device firmware, but error 8002F1F9 occurred.
You cannot use WiFi or Bluetooth.
This problem is caused by a design flaw: the chip continues to power the WiFi module even when the device is in standby mode. This could be due to a poor-quality chip or a design defect.
The solution is to replace the chip or make a small modification to the circuit, such as replacing the power IC.
Diagnostic Steps
On the PlayStation 3 Slim, this problem is usually caused by a faulty J7L chip that fails to output 1.8V.
The following are the voltages required for the chip to operate. First, measure the chip’s input voltage; it must be 5V and 3.3V. With the device in standby mode, if these two voltages are present, the coil output voltage must be 1.8V.
Repair Steps
There are two ways to repair this problem: You can purchase and replace it with the same chip, but be aware that it may fail again over time. Alternatively, we can make a minor modification by installing an AMS1117-1.8 chip.
Installing the Same Chip
If you choose to install the same chip, the process is quite simple.
Use a hot air gun to desolder the old IC pads, clean the pads on the motherboard, resolder, and solder the new chip.
Installing the AMS1117-1.8
Due to the size of the AMS1117-1.8, we cannot install it where J7L is located.
Use your hot air gun to remove the J7L chip. If you wish, you can also remove the large coil on the 1.8V line.
The AMS1117-1.8 has four contact points. We need to isolate the individual contact points; simply place a small piece of Kapton tape under the IC.
Solder the AMS1117-1.8 as shown in the image below.
After soldering the new AMS1117-1.8, ensure there is 1.8V on the middle pin.
This approach may seem more complex, but it’s actually better because the AMS1117 is more reliable than the originally installed J7L.
Reassemble the main unit, ensuring you can update it smoothly.
Ensure you can sync the controller via Bluetooth.
Connect the main unit to the internet using Wi-Fi.
