Here are the steps I took to restore my Steam Deck.
Once, after my Steam Deck’s battery died,
I couldn’t get the screen to power back on. I could feel the haptic feedback and hear the Deck startup chime, but there was nothing on the screen. Entering the BIOS using the volume buttons and power button also didn’t work. I submitted a support ticket and almost had to return it. They provided the following steps:
1. Ensure the device is powered off by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds.
2. Check that the device is off. There should be no haptic response when touching the touchpad, and no fan noise.
3. Plug the included power adapter into the device. You should see a solid white LED.
4. Press and hold the “Volume +” button and the “…” button simultaneously for 10 seconds. After holding the buttons for 10 seconds, unplug the power adapter.
5. If done correctly, you should see the power indicator flash 3 times, after which the device will not respond to the power button.
6. Then, plug the power adapter back into your device. This should exit storage mode.
7. Retest the problem.
Initially, these troubleshooting steps didn’t work…
In the third step, although I noticed the haptic feedback was off, I would hear a beep and the haptic response would restart as soon as I plugged in the cable. At this point, I decided to press and hold the power button again while tracing on the touchpad until the haptic response stopped. Then, I continued using the volume up and “…” buttons as usual, and bang… it worked!
