Playstation 4 Death Blu-ray Pulse
The flashing blue light indicates a hardware failure, not the finality of the process, so the console can continue to operate.
The power indicator light keeps flashing blue, but the host is still turned on
The pulsating blue light of death may be caused by various reasons.
The following are known faults that may be caused:
The hard drive is broken
A broken hard drive may cause BLOD (Boot Loop On Disk) to occur.
The best approach is to disassemble it and check if the main unit can enter safe mode.
Connection between APU and motherboard
The original PS4 has a known issue where the solder balls beneath the APU may fail, causing connection problems. However, this issue may also occur in other versions of the Playstation 4. A good method is to press down on the back of the APU with your hand and try to power it on while continuing to apply pressure. If the console starts up, then that’s your problem, although this method may not work in some cases.
You need a BGA rework station to solve this problem. Although re-soldering the APU can solve this issue, it may require re-soldering.
Memory chip failure
If you have a thermal imaging camera, you can turn it on to check if there are any abnormal hot spots on the memory chip. If you don’t have a thermal imaging camera, you can try touching the circuit board with your hand.
The memory chip is known to be damaged, generate excessive heat, and emit blue light
For the original PS4 (CUH-10XX/CUH-11XX), it is difficult to inspect all modules due to their distribution on both sides of the motherboard.
If no hotspots are found, memory could still be the culprit – refer to other fault sections.
Other faults
Please refer to the UART fault detection guide for PlayStation 4 to identify the cause of the BLOD pulse.
